From October – April, the North Shore of Oahu is hit hard by winter storms that brew up from thousands of miles away. With no land mass in its way, the swells travel for thousands of miles until they unload on the reefs of the North Shore. The waves on the North Shore is a said to be the most powerful in the world, with many days waves reaching 30-50 feet high!

3 of the most famous waves in the world are on the North Shore! Banzai Pipeline, Waimea Bay, and Sunset Beach. At any of these surf spots, you can get the best wave of your life, or the wipeout of your life! If in doubt, don’t go out! Sometimes its best to watch the pros in action from the safety of the beach, you might even get to meet one of them as they walk by you!

During the winter months when the waves get big, Kala and his surf school will take you to Pua’ena Point where the waves remain small and are perfect for learning and riding your first wave. In the summer months, he will take you to Chuns Reef on the North Shore, where even when the surf report calls for flat waves, there are still fun yet small waves to ride there.
